Confronting advanced breast cancer together
Second Hope is the only UK charity specifically for people living with advanced breast cancer. The charity is run purely by volunteers which means that all donations received go to fulfil our charitable aims and objectives, not to pay salaries or expensive overheads.
Why we support this charity
This charity is currently raising money to support a new research project into advanced, secondary breast cancer, and setting up a dedicated helpline for families living with this life threatening, life changing disease, hoping to allow a specialist nurse to provide practical guidance and information during their journeys. making the unknown less fearful.
This charity is close to my heart, and one I am setting to learning about and wanting to support because a very close friend Laura died of this terrible disease only months ago in Dec 2016. Laura progressed from treated primary breast cancer to secondary cancer very quickly and went through some very hard month’s fighting to find treatments, trials and help for herself, help for her family, and care and understanding of her situation for her very young children.
Laura wanted to raise awareness and funds for this charity but sadly was never able to as she used all her energy and love in fighting for her life and being with her children. As I learn and understand more about this cancer and the charity itself I will post more here but with the wishes of Laura’s husband and herself I want to raise for Second Hope, and try in a small way to help other families so that no one has to go through what John, Laura and their beautiful children went through.
